Client plans
Price your service: base fee, included minutes, overage and caps.
A client plan is what your clients buy from you: a recurring base price, an allowance of call minutes and phone numbers, and the price of anything beyond that. You set every number, so you decide your margin.
- Stripe is connected. See Connect Stripe.
- You know roughly what your calls cost you in Retell and what you pay for your Wozena plan.
How a plan is priced#
Every plan combines up to five parts:
- Base price, charged monthly or yearly.
- Included minutes of calls each period.
- Minute overage for minutes beyond the allowance, billed either at a flat per-minute rate or as a multiplier on the underlying call cost.
- Phone numbers: a number of included lines and a price for each extra one.
- Overage caps (optional) that stop usage at a limit you choose.
The base price is charged up front. Overage is billed in arrears and collected on the client’s next invoice. See how usage rebilling works.
Plan your pricing#
Start from your costs. You pay Retell for every call minute, and you pay Wozena a flat platform fee. Your plan needs to cover both with room to spare. Size the included minutes to what a typical client in that tier really uses, so most clients pay only the base price and heavy users pay for the extra.
Example: flat per-minute overage
| Setting | Example value |
|---|---|
| Base price | $299 per month |
| Included minutes / period | 500 |
| Overage billing | Flat per-minute rate, $0.40 |
| Phone numbers included | 1 |
| Per extra number | $5.00 |
In one month the client uses 640 minutes and keeps 2 numbers active. That is 140 extra minutes × $0.40 = $56.00, plus 1 extra number × $5.00 = $5.00. Their next invoice has the new month’s $299 plus $61.00 of usage from the month just ended.
Example: multiplier on cost
| Setting | Example value |
|---|---|
| Base price | $149 per month |
| Included minutes / period | 200 |
| Overage billing | Multiplier on cost, 1.5 |
The client goes past 200 minutes, and Retell charges you $30.00 for those extra minutes. With a 1.5 multiplier the client is billed $45.00, and you keep $15.00 on the overage. If your call costs change, the client’s price moves with them.

Flat rate or multiplier?#
| Flat per-minute rate | Multiplier on cost | |
|---|---|---|
| Client sees | A fixed price per extra minute they can predict. | A price that follows your underlying call cost. |
| Your margin | Fixed per minute. It shrinks if your call costs rise. | A percentage that scales with usage. |
| When usage is recorded | When the call ends. | Once Retell reports the call’s cost, so it can lag slightly. |
| Good for | Most small-business clients. Easy to explain in a proposal. | Clients with long or complex calls whose cost varies. |
With a multiplier of 1.5, extra minutes bill at 150% of the underlying call cost. A multiplier of 1 passes cost through with no margin.
Phone number pricing#
Set how many active numbers the base price includes with “Included”, and what each additional number costs with “Per extra number”. Each period the client is charged (active numbers − included) × the per-number price. Clients who stay within the included count pay nothing extra. See Phone numbers for buying and assigning numbers.
Overage caps#
Caps protect clients from surprise bills and protect you from runaway usage. Turn on “Cap client overage” and set “Maximum extra minutes / period” and “Maximum extra active numbers”. Both are required when caps are on. With caps off, overage is uncapped, though platform abuse safeguards still apply.
When a client reaches a cap, new calls and numbers are blocked until the next period or until you raise the limit. You and the client’s admin are alerted at 80% and 100%. To give one client different limits without changing the plan, use a per-client cap override.
Storefront availability#
| Option | What it means |
|---|---|
| “Internal only — link disabled” | The default. You assign the plan to clients yourself. No signup link works, and clients don’t see it in Usage & Billing. |
| “Hidden — link works, not listed” | Anyone with the link can sign up. The plan isn’t listed for signed-in clients. Good for private offers. |
| “Publicly purchasable” | The link works, and signed-in clients can choose it in Usage & Billing. |
A link also needs the plan to be active and client self-signup to be on. See Plan links and storefront.
Storefront copy#
These fields control what a buyer sees on your signup page. In “Public description”, each line becomes a bullet. A line ending in “available separately” is shown as the footnote instead. For example:
Answers every call, 24/7
500 call minutes per month
One local phone number
Books appointments into your calendar
Custom integrations available separatelyUse “After signup or checkout” to send new clients to a specific page in your portal, and “Onboarding instructions” to tell them what happens next, such as when you’ll call to set up their agent.
What you can’t change later#
“Base price”, “Currency” and “Billing interval” are backed by a Stripe price, so they are fixed once the plan exists. Allowances, overage and caps can change at any time and apply to every client on the plan.
To reprice a plan:
- Duplicate itOn the plan card, click “Duplicate”, set the new price, and click “Create duplicate”.
- Move clientsMove existing clients to the new plan from their “Billing” tab. See Change a client’s plan.
- Archive the old planArchive it so new clients can’t pick it.
Free plans#
Set “Plan type” to “Free plan” for pilots, demos or bundled deals. Free plans:
- Activate instantly, with no checkout, no card and no Awaiting payment state.
- Reset their allowance every 30 days, or every 365 days on a yearly interval.
- Treat the included minutes and numbers as hard limits. Outbound calling and number provisioning pause once the allowance is used, until you move the client to a paid plan.
- Track usage but never bill it, and can’t take a per-client cap override.
Archive a plan#
Click “Archive” on the plan card and confirm. Existing subscriptions continue and keep billing. The plan is hidden from new clients. You can also set “Status” to “Archived” when editing a plan, and set it back to “Active” the same way to restore it.
Troubleshooting#
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| “Complete Stripe setup first” | Stripe isn’t connected. See Connect Stripe. |
| The price fields are locked | Price, currency and interval are fixed after creation. Duplicate the plan to reprice. |
| A client’s calls stopped mid-month | They reached an overage cap or used a free plan’s allowance. Raise the cap, override it for that client, or move them to another plan. |
| The signup link doesn’t work | See plan link troubleshooting. |
